Shift

Dear Appa,

Change happens. And it can happen in a blink of an eye.

When the world suddenly shifted to stay-at-home, we saw you shift too.

We saw you transition into a stay-at-home-chef, a stay-at-home-teacher.

A stay-at-home-coffee-connoisseur, a stay-at-home-nine-to-fiver.

A stay-at-home-fixer-upper to a stay-at-home-Netflixer.

A stay-at-home-gym-fanatic to a stay-at-home-movie-buff.

A stay-at-home-mr-do-it-all to a stay-at-home-couch-potato.

We saw you shift into so many different sides of you.

Even sides we’ve never seen before.

But we saw you and we loved you just the same.

From tipping two-hundred on the scale to getting into tip-top shape.

From clean-shaven hair to long luscious look-at-me locks.

From an eccentric Yoga master in the mountains to a Yeti living in the basement.

From a defeated soldier to a prayer warrior.

We saw you at your peak, we saw you at your lowest point,

and sometimes all in the same day.

But we see you and we love you just the same.

Our todays have truly proven to be a balancing act.

Some days can feel like too much of this or too little of that.

There have been more off days than on.

And it doesn’t take much to tip us over the edge.

But the greatest shift was the one you made from within.

The conscious choice to shift your eyes and to be the change you want to see.

No matter in your wavering, wandering or even in your waiting,

may you always stand firm in your faith.

Believing that in every waking moment,

you will be standing on ground He has given you.

And each waking day is a day he has brought you to, just like the one today.

Happy 44th Birthday, Appa.

As you shift into this new season, may each new day be a day to

renew your mind, shift your eyes and move where He leads you,

trusting that transformation and growth will follow.

Amidst the changes, even in your shifting,

may it be your faith and your identity in Him

that keeps you grounded, balanced and at peace, in your sweet spot.

Trust that He will meet you where you are, as you are

(no-matter-who-you-are-at-home)

because He sees you and He loves you just the same.
