Appa
Dear Appa,
You’re always the first to greet us in the morning with your hugs and kisses (we know mommy is always the last one up).
You’re the first to take us downstairs and make us our favourite breakfast. Cereal.
You’re the first to give us time-outs when we make bad choices.
You’re the first to high-five us for our proud moments.
You’re always the first to scoot us out the door when we need to get somewhere on time (we know mommy is always the last one ready).
You’re the first to buckle us in safely into our carseats.
You’re the first to soothe us with your singing when we’re having a meltdown in the car.
You’re usually the first to smell our poopy diaper.
You’re usually the first to change our poopy diaper.
You’re the first to come to pick us up when we fall down.
You’re the first to wipe away our tears and kiss our bruises.
You’re the first to chase us around the house when we’re being silly.
You’re the first to catch us and tickle us until our bellies hurt from laughing.
You’re the first to give us belly rubs when our tummies hurt.
You’re always the first to say “bedtime!” and scoot us upstairs.
You’re the first to make sure we’re well fed even before you’ve taken a bite.
You’re the first to make sure we’re well napped even when you haven’t slept a wink.
You’re the first to make sure we’re well loved.
You’re the first to make sure we have everything we need.
And as long as you’re our Appa, there’s nothing more we could ever ask for.
To us, you are simply the first.
Happy Father’s Day, Appa.
Thank you for all that you do and all that you are.
We love you today, tomorrow and even through our awkward high school days.
xo,
Zoey + Emma
