Fly
Dear Romy,
It was your first time flying.
You did not want to get on that plane.
From the first step in, you were loud and it was clear that even someone as fearless as you, feared the unknown.
In a state of panic and tears, you clung onto every doorframe and did everything in your will to get off that plane.
That first step into the unknown can be the scariest and the hardest.
The thing is, we’re all travelling through time, every step leading us through different time zones until it leads us out of our comfort zone.
Don’t let fear hold you back from taking that leap of faith. Even after you do, you’ll be tempted to cling onto any and every passing doorframe.
And when times get turbulent, your first instinct will be to look for the nearest exit.
Romy, when you took your first step onto that plane, I knew you had nothing to be afraid of. I knew that you would be okay and that it was all in your head.
I knew all the amazing things that awaited miles ahead of you and how much you’d be missing out if you had turned back and gotten off that plane.
You never would’ve gotten to meet Cinderella and show her your twirl.
You never would’ve gotten to bury your feet in the sand and build sand castles to the sky.
You never would’ve gotten to run into the ocean and run away from the waves.
You never would’ve gotten to sleep in a bunk bed with your sisters for the first time.
You never would’ve gotten car sick on what your sisters called the “crazy road.”
You never would’ve gotten to see the depths of the Grand Canyon, the bright lights of Vegas and the peaks of Yosemite.
You never would’ve gotten to go to the happiest place on earth, Disneyland.
But my happiest place of all was with you, with us and I’m so grateful we got to do it all, together.
Happy 3rd birthday, baby doll.
Baby step by baby step, you’ve already grown into a strong, playful and fearlessly loving baby girl.
But you still have miles and miles to grow.
Just like your first plane ride, always trust in the Lord to be the pilot of your faith journey.
He will turn fear into faith.
He will turn that first step into a journey of many more firsts.
And you will go to the depths and peaks and go miles further than you could’ve ever imagined.
Just take that first leap and let your faith fly.
J
