All Day, All the Time

Romy 5th Birthday Collage

Dear Romy,
My small but mighty, fun and free spirited child.
My littlest sidekick with the strongest kick but who also happens to pack the biggest punch.
The one who fully knows how to kick back and live life to the fullest, from demanding back scratches to leg and foot massages after a long day at Kindergarten.
I know, being a Senior ain’t easy when you’re around a bunch of Juniors, all day, all the time.

The one who indulges in the sweetest of treats, then hides the rest in her secret stash.
Well, actually, not-so-secret because we all know it’s right by the foot of your bed, all day, all the time.

The one who is not afraid to ask for the most monstrous tickles from the tickle monster.
The one who isn’t afraid to sing a tune or bust a move, preferably behind closed doors in the comfort of your home or in the car.
The one who is not afraid to step on anyone’s toes and will choose to hop on ours for a little stroll or a slow dance, whenever, wherever.

The one who is not afraid to tell us to do all these very things that you love and you’ll even add in by saying “All day” or “All the time” which tells us that you never want it to end.

I remember a time when the really tough stuff felt like “All day, all the time.”

With you being our third child, the endless diaper changes, the feeds, the naps, or the lack thereof, the meltdowns, the pile-ups, the mall walks and the sleep walks through life seemed to be the neverending story of my life.
It made getting out of bed really tough.
It made getting the day-to-day things done even tougher.

But you being our last makes me realize “All day, all the time” really doesn’t last and now the toughest part is realizing that I actually never want it to end.

Happy 5th Birthday, Baby Doll.
I can’t believe it’s now your turn to turn Five!
High five to our leanest and meanest, singing, flossing, somersaulting machine.
You may be the smallest in our bunch, but it’s loud and clear that you my dear, pack the biggest punch.

Romy, there are just so many things I love about you and you give me so many reasons to keep on living, to keep on laughing and you are the one I’m going to keep on loving.

Not just all day, all the time, but all through my days, beyond the end of time.

J
